SOPA! Settlement Online Pre-Arrival! In Regina!

Moving to Saskatchewan, one of Canada’s prairie provinces, can be challenging and full of surprises! Many newcomers will describe settlement and integration as a difficult task regardless of where you’re moving to or moving from.

To simplify the immigration processRegina Open Door Society (RODS), a local newcomer settlement agency has partnered with Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia to offer free online courses to provide specialized information in efforts to support newcomers make a smooth transition.

Online courses can be accessed through the Settlement Online Pre-Arrival (SOPA) website after an initial meeting with an Intake Counsellor. This initial meeting provides an opportunity for newcomers to explore each individual’s unique career goals resulting in an effective action plan.

Upon meeting certain eligibility requirements, newcomers are given the option to access either self-directed or facilitated courses offered between 4-6 weeks in length.All courses are focused on en-hancing one’s ability to integrate into the Canadian workplace.

In addition, opportunities are created within the course to discuss Canadian norms and values related to job search techniques, common interview preparation tips, how to research the hidden job market and learning communication skills typical in most Canadian work-places.
